For over 40 years, D Bar J Hat Company has been a trusted name in authentic, handmade Western hats. Founded by David Johnson in Las Vegas, Nevada, the company earned its reputation for uncompromising craftsmanship, traditional hat-making methods, and a deep respect for the Western lifestyle.

Each D Bar J hat was—and still is—shaped by hand, built to last, and made with pride. David’s work became known across the country for its durability, clean lines, and timeless character.

A New Chapter: Robert Houston & Garrahan Hat Co.

In 2025, after decades behind the steamer and hat block, David passed the torch to someone who shared the same love of craftsmanship and tradition: Robert Houston, owner of Garrahan Hat Co. in Old Town Orange, California.

Since founding Garrahan Hat Co. in 2009, Robert has built a reputation for excellence in custom fedoras, dress hats, and now Western hats. His shop is rooted in time-honored techniques and a belief that a good hat is both personal and practical—a belief that mirrors David’s philosophy perfectly.

D Bar J Lives On

Rather than absorb D Bar J into his existing brand, Robert chose to preserve it. Today, D Bar J continues as its own Western hat line, crafted entirely by hand in Old Town Orange using the original D Bar J tools, equipment, and methods.

Every D Bar J hat is still:
